According to the Financial Times, Walmart just acquired Vudu by buying it out on Feburary 22, 2010. Walmart is the biggest DVD supplier and getting this film download service will keep Walmart at the top of the charts. Vudu is an internet video software syatem and is now being incorporated into television sets and Blu-Ray disc players. Vudu charges a low $3.99 to get access to and rent recently released films and $19.99 to buy the film.
This brings Walmart into the competition with Netflix, Redbox, and other DVD outlets. Walmart is a DVD providor for approximately 40% of the market. Walmart belives that this ownership of Vudu will give Walmart customers a choice of versatility of the forms they want to watch their entertainment in. We will simply have to see if Walmart acquires other industries to be world leaders.
